The Principal of Sizwile School for the Deaf, in Soweto has given a stern warning to the 2024 matriculants to refrain from uMjolo (loosely translated in isiZulu as dating) but to focus their attention solely on the key goal of passing with Bachelor passes.
The school Principal, Mr Madilonga Luvhimbi said for the past three years the school has been obtaining 100% matric passes. Therefore, he urged the 2024 matriculants to follow in the footsteps of past matriculants and work hard to obtain Bachelor passes.
Addressing the 2023 and 2024 matriculants Luvhimbi said:
He said, it is no longer strange for the school to get good results, hence he encouraged this year’s matriculants to work hard to obtain Bachelor passes.

“You, the Grade 12 of this year, must all pass with a Bachelor. It is possible and it is simple. These kids (Class of 2023) did not even consult any inyanga (traditional healer) or anyone whatsoever. Their inyanga was their teachers. They were submitting their work on time. They were not taking days off. They were forever doing what their teachers were saying, hence these great results. The 2021, 2022 and 2023 matriculants gave us 100% passes. So, great results are no longer strange to us. It will be a taboo if you do not give us good results,” said Luvhimbi.
Luvhimbi said it was possible for last year’s matriculants to pass. Therefore, he was certain that this year’s matriculants have the potential to excel in their exams.
Speaking like a father to them Luvhimbi said:
He added, “I was so happy that one of our learners got a certificate of good behaviour. It starts there. But if you are not going to respect those who will be standing in front of you, teaching, and showing you how life is, you will not make it.”
He said, “Teachers are ready for you, they are waiting for you in the classrooms. Studying started when the schools opened. You cannot talk to me about holidays and say it is early days. In Grade 12 we do not talk about early days, no. The first day we opened, teaching started. Therefore, you must give us good results.”
