National Deaf Women Summit

The second National Deaf Women Summit hosted by the Deaf Women Association of Nigeria started yesterday in Abuja, Nigeria. The major event is themed, “Empowering Deaf Women, Empowering Voices” and is expected to attract Deaf women from all walks of life. It runs till Friday 30, August. Among the core issues to be addressed during the summit, are Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and leadership development for Deaf Women in Nigeria. The Diary Series of Deaf People’s Journalist, Alexander Ogheneruemu will be reporting live from the event.

As the country celebrates Deaf Awareness Month, the Diary Series of Deaf People (www.thedeafdiary.com), a digital publication that highlights the plight of the Deaf community, in conjunction with the Johannesburg Society for the Blind, the Deaf Federation of South Africa (DeafSA), Tebza Productions and the South African National Association for Specialised Education (Sanase) will be hosting Judge Brian Mashile of the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court. Theme: “If he Can Do It, I Can Do It.”
